Kim Kirchstein
Owner & Designer of Leopold Designs
"I absolutely love surface design, and finding new ways of creating it. If I had my dream studio, I would dabble in a number of techniques!" - Kim Kirschstein
Kim Kirchstein is an artist specializing in hand-dyed batiked silk. She calls her business Leopold Designs, named for a big orange tabby cat she had for 16 years. Kim received a BFA in Surface Design from East Carolina School of Art, where she learned batik, screen printing (hand-cut and photographic), Shibori, direct-dye painting on fabric, and a variety of other methods of putting pattern and color onto fabric. As it is now, in her upstairs bedroom-turned-studio, she's really been enjoying batik work and exploring new ways to get new line, texture, and color from it.
